St David’s Organ Restoration
The organ in St David’s Church, Holmbridge was built in 1887 by Conacher and Co in their organ workshop in Huddersfield. It has served faithfully for well over 100 years but finally required some much needed TLC so was removed in February 2025 and gradually rebuilt during the year. A concert in 2026 on St David’s Day celebrated its return.
Our organists, Jean Chadwick and Michael Clarke, have spent hours getting to know the different feel of the organ and whilst a few technical problems need resolving we are delighted that Holmfirth Choral Society chose to come to St David’s to sing ‘The Creation’ with a challenging organ accompaniment. We are hoping in the future to invite guest organists for an organ recital series.
Most of the cost of this restoration has been covered by fundraising & grants but we still have £6,000 . to raise. An interest free loan from a generous member of the community has covered this shortfall to date - do help us close the gap by supporting our concerts and coffee mornings or making an online donation.
